Veteran Assistance

Our goal at 22 2 None is to serve our veteran community. We understand that life situations can often lead to unforeseen circumstances and we would like to ensure that our veterans have resources available to assist when these needs arise.

To protect you, the veteran, as well as our organization, we have implemented an application process that we require each veteran requesting assistance to complete. Once the application is complete, one or more board members will be directly in contact with you to discuss your needs. All veteran needs are reviewed by our board on an individual basis.

Please download the Assistance Application below and follow the enclosed instructions for returning it back to our organization.

Questions?

If you have any questions regarding assistance that we can provide to our veterans, please contact us.

Peer Support

Peer support can be described as the process of giving and receiving encouragement and assistance to achieve long-term recovery. Peer support is not designed to replace the work of psychiatric care, it is made to compliment it.

Along with transforming the Barracks into transitional housing for our veterans, we are also eager to provide outreach services that can assist veterans who are transitioning from military life.

One service that can benefit veterans is that of peer support. Josh Petersen, one of our 22 2 None board members, is also a Certified Peer Support Specialist.

As a United States Army veteran, Josh understands that most veterans do not want to be fixed, they just want to be validated and heard. He recognizes that veterans go from a life of structure, where one is trained to have each other’s backs, into a world where they feel they cannot share their experiences for fear that no one will understand. Peer supporters offer not only emotional support, but they also share knowledge, teach skills, provide practical assistance, and connect people with resources, opportunities, communities of support, and other people.

Peer supporters are not here to tell you what to do, but to help guide you to find your own solutions to your struggles, while helping you realize you are not the only one. Veterans need to talk with someone who has been in their shoes, and this is where peers come in. Everyone needs a support system of some sort, and veterans talking to other veterans gives a sense of trust, confidence to reach out for help, and the feeling of someone having their backs again.

Josh will be hosting peer support meetings weekly at the Barracks during MWR Mondays. Please contact Josh at outreach@222none.org with any questions regarding outreach or peer support.

 Drew Kostic Scholarship

About Drew

Drew Kostic was a U.S. Marine veteran who attended Northwestern Michigan College. He was a part of the Student Veterans of America (SVA) and was active in the community by performing outreach missions to raise awareness about veteran suicide. Even though he was aware of how and where to get help, Drew took his own life on December 18, 2016.

Staff Sergeant Drew Kostic Veterans’ Scholarship

The Staff Sergeant Drew Kostic Veterans' Scholarship was established at NMC to provide assistance to veterans and actively serving military members while they are working toward their higher education. Our plan is to continue to grow the scholarship fund to help as many veterans achieve their educational goals as possible.

For more information or to donate directly to the scholarship visit nmc.edu/drew-kostic.

Donations

As 22 2 None grows, we are expanding our services to serve Northern Michigan veterans and grow outreach in the community. Funds raised support our transitional housing project (Belay My Last Barracks), the Staff Sergeant Drew Kostic Veterans’ Scholarship at Northwestern Michigan College, and everyday needs we address on an ongoing basis for our local veterans.
